Review: The Gardeners Arms

The Jericho withdrawals currently feeling very real after I left Oxford University Press, I made plans to meet a friend back in that part of the city for dinner, before a trip to the theatre. Despite having worked a stoneโ€™s throw away from the only vegetarian pub in Oxford for over two years, I had […]

Review: Al-Shami

On offer at the Lebanese restaurant is a plethora of traditional hot and cold mezze as well as larger dishes, and vegans are spoilt for choice with a large number of these being clearly labelled as vegan on the printed version of the menu.

Review: Opera Cafe

She pointed at a bowl of iceberg lettuce with a couple of slices of tomato, cucumber, and olives in, and said that that was it. Besides the fact that I don’t like olives, it was a pretty small bowl and I knew it wouldn’t remotely fill me up.

Review: Franco Manca

Sourdough pizza restaurant Franco Manca is the latest addition to the plethora of food options on George Street, and I was very happy to be invited to try out their vegan pizza the week after they opened on 14th August.

Review: Will’s Deli

The menus change almost daily so I think I could quite easily become a regular here and it would take a long time for me to get bored of the food. Today’s hot veggie dish was a chickpea tagine which was served with rice or potatoes, and your choice of hot green veg or one selection from the salad bar.

Review: Thali

New Indian restaurant Thali opened on George Street at the end of last month and is a welcome bright addition amongst the row of mostly large-scale chain restaurants. I was very happy to receive an invitation from the lovely people at Thali to try their food – and it didn’t disappoint.

Review: Pizza Express

Pizza Express are one of a handful of chain restaurants that offer a massive 40% off on Mondays and Tuesdays for students, making it a really fantastic deal (I think my three courses and a drink came to just over a tenner). If you don’t have a student card, they usually have set menu offers on their website for only a couple of pounds more, that are valid every day of the week.

Review: Ask Italian

We decided to go to Ask Italian as itโ€™s really close to Odeon on George Street, and one of the few places offering a student discount in Oxford that we havenโ€™t tried yet. Things were off to a good start when the waitress presented us with two free small glasses of freshly made pink lemonade shortly after we were seated.

Review: Thaikhun

With a couple of hours to kill between watching two films at Odeon, Jamie and I decided to visit Thaikhun, the Thai restaurant on George Street, for date night. Tuesday is their student night and, while they do a pretty decent student discount all week long, a handful of main meals are on offer for the amazing value of ยฃ7.

Review: Las Iguanas

I think the fact that I visited twice in the space of a week should tell you all you need to know about whether the food at Las Iguanas is any good or not. I had a great experience both times I visited.
